Starting school soon

I can't believe I start school in 2 weeks! It's crazy. I changed things a bit since I last posted. I had registered for a math class that was monday thru friday in the middle of the day. Well I was able to drop in and then register again but this time online. So I can do the class anytime during the day. Now I can still work full time. Since the other class is still in the evening.
I thought I had my financial aid taken care of. I got a letter the other week saying that I needed to turn some papers in, which I had done earlier that same day (ugh) and that I was only registered for 3 credits, which would equal one class. I have 6 credits which is 2 classes. I need to get it figured out or it will massively affect my financial aid. And I'm so worried about cutting it close. I'd do it this week, but the college is closed for christmas break. So I have to do it the week after, which is the week before school starts. Ugh!
But I called my great uncle (also my godfather) and told him I was going to school. He's really happy. He's been saving money for when I go to school. He's said he'd help pay for my books and materials. He also told me to look into other types of aids and assitances. Since I'm technically a single mom, he said I should be able to get all kinds of help. So I'm going to have alot to do the week before school.

Other things, christmas was really nice. I was really worried about not being able to get my boys anything. But they ended up getting enough things that they wouldn't notice. Lol.

I don't know what to do about my relationship anymore. I really do love Elliot. But he is not making smart decisions. At all. And I think he's become comfortable not working. And he thinks he can ask me for money whenever. I'm getting so tired of it. I really need to figure out what to do.

Well, thats about it for now. If I think of anything else, I'll post.

Everyone have a happy new years.

School!!!

I finally got my acceptance letter in the mail today! Oh, I'm so excited. I can't believe that next month I will be a college student. WOW. I also registered for some classes today, since its cutting it soo close, I wanted to get alot done today. I'm only taking 2 classes. I was going to take 3, but one class I'm taking is a prerequisite for the other I wanted to take. Lol. So only two. The math class I'm taking is monday thru friday. From 11:30-12:20. And then I'm taking an Intro to College Writing. That's on tuesday and thursday, from 5:30-6:45pm. So not too bad. I have to redo my work schedule now. My current schedule is 5 days a week, 5am-1pm. I'm worried about potentially not being full time. But with financial aid, and my tax return in febuary, I think it'll be ok. I just have to be smart with my money. Hmm, what else to share....
I haven't made a whole lot of diapers lately. Kind of depressing too. I just don't seem to have the time to go to my grandma's and get anything done. Sad. And I'm also incredibly low on fabric.
I'm having MORE car problems. As if the first $1700 wasn't enough. I had to get a state assisted loan to cover those repairs. And now what? My battery goes. And I know theres a bad connection with the wires too. So a new battery and connection wires. And then, my car hasn't been blowing hot air. So I need anti-freeze. But thats not a major deal. Oh wait, and a headlight. But on a very bright note, Elliot's been working a bit and said he'd buy the battery and wires. Yay! He's gotten a job with snow plowing. Its an on-call job, obviously. But it pays really good.
I'm also going to share a diaper give away in hopes of uping my chance of winning : )
http://fancycloth.blogspot.com/2010/12/fancy-cloth-reindeer-pocket.html
She makes some of the cutest diapers I've ever seen! Seriously. I'm on a sewing board that she's on too. I love her ideas. She is so creative and I just love the way she thinks and comes up with stuff. The give away is for a christmas diaper. It's so cute. It's got a reindeer on the butt. If I win, I'm either going to keep it for my boys, or give it to my aunt and uncle. They cloth diaper their son full time and need new diapers.
Ok. I think that's all I had to share for today. I'll try to update soon. If not before the holidays
HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!!!!!!

Stupid computer

So it seems like I've been gone for a bit. Maybe not that long. My computer got a virus and I wasn't able to get it anywhere for a couple days and then it took the guys a while to fix it. But I finally have it back now. I recently got a new diaper pattern. I bought the Rainy Days diaper pattern on a BSOT message board. I've only made on diaper from the pattern so far but I love it. Both of my boys wear the same size setting. It is just a great diaper. I'm possibly going to be getting the Darling Diapers Unlimited soon. We'll see.

Last we I submitted the last things that was needed for my college application. I recieved an email saying the got my application and everything else. Now I'm just waiting for a phone call or whatever saying I can start : )
I'm hoping I get accept to start in January. I really really hope so. I've been looking at classes and such and if I get accepted, I'll probably only start with 3 or so classes. A couple are ones that I'm required to take before other ones.
I think that's about it for now.

Snap Pliers!

So I've been wanting snap pliers since I joined <A HREF=http://diaperdivas.proboards.com/index.cgi>diaper sewing divas</A>. I like snapped diapers. I also like aplix too, but having a snap pliers makes fixing things easier too. Haha.
Anyways, I've been wanting a set. But I just haven't had the spare money to buy them. The other week, my cell phone got disconnected. Ugh. I had a $300 bill because we recently had a family plan and didn't pay the bill. Then we (2 of my brothers) went to the cell store and split off into individual plans. I didn't realize that the old bill would roll over onto my new account. Sucky! So I didn't have the money to pay and yeah, disconnection. When I got paid on friday, I planned on making a payment. But then I figured even if I did make a payment, it wouldn't be enough to get my phone back on. So I decided to keep my paycheck and spoil myself. And to top it off (in a good way) it was my birthday on sunday. So I treated myself to some things. Me and Elliot went to Wal-Mart and I got some really nice earrings. And we got Nathan a toy. And I decided I deserved some snap pliers. I ordered them friday night. And I got them yesterday (monday) afternoon! Holy fastness!! I was so excited. First thing I did (after going through everything) was fix and old pair of flats I have. I bought them from urban outfitters. And then the buttons broke off. So I fixed them. And then later I put snaps on a diaper I had at my house. I keep all my diapers and sewing stuff at my grandma's in their apartment above the garage. I will say it is a much better idea to put snaps on before a diaper is sewn. I'm lucky it was a pocket but it took forever to put snaps on. And I don't think I got them as pressed as I could. Oh well, it turned out awesome.
I don't have any pics of the diaper I did, but I have pics of the pliers and my shoes that I fixed. Anyways, I think that's about it. Oh, pretty soon I'm going to learn how to use a serger. It actually might be a bit because my grandma was going to teach me but she just got home from the hospital. She's ok though.

Ok, time for pics.

Snap pliers and what came with:

Shoes I fixed:
I put white snaps on. I only got two colors, white and
lime green.

Well, that's all. Just wanted to share my excitement.
Thanks.

It's my birthday!!!

Woohoo! So far so good. We just stayed home lastnight because no one really had much money to do anything else. We just had some drinks and played video games all night. It really was alot of fun. And today I don't think there is much planned. Elliot's mom is going to make me a cake and we're going to get some ice cream. I might treat myself to a bubble bath. Yay.

I don't remember if I talked about this in any of my other posts, but I plan on going back to school hopefully in January. I went last week and took a sort of admissions test to the college I want to attend. I never took the ACT/SAT and the one I took last week is basically this colleges version of those tests. Based on the results of that, there are a few classes I'm required to take before I can take some other ones. But when I got home after taking the test, I immediatley went online and applied for Financial Aid. I qualify for up to $5500! And this comming wednesday, I have an appt with the guidance counsler at my old high school to help me apply to the college. I asked her to help because I haven't done anything college related for atleast 5 years. Haha. So I'm kinda lost when it comes to that. But I'm looking forward to all this getting taken care of. I can't believe I'm going back to school!

Early morning.

Well, it's 5:35am. I'm usually not up this early unless I have to work. If I'm working, I'm up around 4:30 and at work by 5. But lastnight I had the worst headache I've probably ever had. I couldn't even get out of my bed! And on top of that, I felt even worse because I missed my son carving his pumpkin. He ended up doing it with his auntie (not a problem), but all I could do was lay in bed and cry. I was so far beyond miserable.
But I think Andrew still has his pumpkin to carve. And we have mine. So maybe we'll do those today. I am feeling better. I slept probably from 8pm lastnight until 4:30 this morning. I called into work (shame on me). But I think I just need a day to rest and catch up. And there were going to be 3 of us at work. Thursdays are a good day for 2 people.
OHH! We have our car back. Finally. We went and picked it up last friday. We honestly got to the place like 5 minutes before they closed. I have to pay the loan back, but since it was a state assisted loan, there's no interest! It'll take me about 18 months to pay it off. I'm just so happy to finally have my car back. But now we're having problems with our health insurance. Ugh! I swear it's one thing after another. If I can't get this figured out and taken care of, our insurance is ending on Nov 1st.

Well, I think that's about it for now. My good stuff and bad stuff in life right now. I was just bored, and can never seem to think of anything to search for on the internet so early. Lol.

My first diaper cover!

I made my first diaper cover! I'm pretty proud of it too. Other than the fact that it is too big for either of my boys. Haha. Its an ok size for Nathan, but still a little big. I posted an In Search Of on a message board and a very kind lady sent me some fold over elastic and a pattern. She helped me out so much. She sent me 8 different colors/prints of foe! So I did a little practice sewing with some of the foe. It went pretty good. Then I thought I'd try making a cover. I didn't want to dive in and use my PUL yet. So I decided I'd make a fleece cover. I made a double layer fleece cover. The wonderful lady also sent me some touch tape so I could add closures to the diaper. She's great.

So here are the pics:

And finally, the tag that I got when I ordered tags for
my grandma. This was an extra : )

I'm really happy with how it turned out. I can't wait to use it. But who knows when that will be. I think it will work really good for a night time cover. I'm looking forward to buying more tags and making my own covers.

No Sew

I haven't been able to sew at all lately since my car is in the shop and I can't afford to fix it : (
Sad I know. And since my sewing stuff is not at my house, I can't do anything. It's so depressing. And even more upsetting, I got some aplix in the mail that I've been waiting for so I can finish making a fleece cover and now I can't even do that. Ugh.

But on a happier note, I think Etsy may be my new friend. Lol. I was just browsing the other day and Wow! I didn't realize all the things thats on there. I was looking through the home stuff and saw a bunch of people that sell wall decals. I love them! I'm for sure planning on getting some whenever we have our own house. Then my boy's can have super cute rooms. Lol.

I've also been thinking about housing options for us lately. I want a house so my boys have a place to grow up and call their's. I desprately want it. My grandma works for the state and told my mom about a couple different programs. None had to do with houses the the overall group/program had a part where they help poorer families buy a house. I was talking to her (my grandma) about it today and she also suggested habitat for humanity. I had never even thought about that. But the more I do think about it, the more it sounds like it would be a good option for us. I still have alot of thinking to do. And before we could even think about applying, Elliot would have to have a job. I have alot of past debt that I need to straighten out also. But it never hurts to consider all the options.

I started writing this entry and then saved it as a draft. As of now, I have qualified for a state assisted loan to fix my car. Yay!! I should have my car back hopefully by the end of the week.

I think that's about it for an update. I'd like to look at making an etsy soon. But it will still probably be a bit. But I might go through my pictures and get together a bunch of the diapers I've sewn. Just to share with everyone.

Baby Legs!

I made my own baby legs. I'm pretty darn proud of them too.
Once a year there's this really big festival a little bit up north. It's a three day event the last weekend of September. It's called Cranfest (cranberry festival) and it's basically a huge flea market and craft fair. There's 1500 vendors if not more. And the crowds are huge! Foot traffic will come to a stand still at times. And there's all sorts of things to buy. There's people that do wood sculptures and metal sculptures. And house crafts and all sorts of stuff. So as we were finishing up, I found a tent where someone was selling knee socks for $1 a pair. I bought 4 pairs. All pairs a striped. Two are grey and brown, one is black and white, and the last is grey and white. When we got home, I went to my grandma's (thats where my sewing space is) and made up all four pairs. It only took me about 40 minutes. And they are adorable.  I can't wait to go buy more socks and make more. Andrew was the first to model them last night because Nathan stayed at my parents house.

Nothing really

Why is there nothing to do on the internet at 1:30 in the morning? I honestly can't think of anything to look for. Andrew woke up and started crying. He's asleep now but now I'm awake. And I have to work in 3 and a half hours. SLEEP! I wish Elliot would come to bed.

Hi Everyone!

Hello. Let's see, where should I start. I'm Katie. I'm a young mommy to 2 handsome boys. I'm 22 and my boyfriend is 24. We've been together for a little over 4 years. My oldest Nathan is 2 years old and my youngest Andrew just turned 1.

I'm trying to live a bit of a more greener lifestyle. Unfortunetly, it hasn't been working out in my favor. When Nathan was about 17months and Andrews was 5 months, I started using cloth diapers. My decision for that was the simple fact that we are a 1 income family and simple could not afford to buy diapers as often as needed with two. Elliot slowly came around to using them. So it was all good. I even bought a sewing machine and started making my own. Then certain things happened and we had to move back in with Elliot's parents. That wouldn't be a big problem except that his mom is rather opinionated about alot. She openly told me that she thinking cloth diapers cause more rashes and they aren't effective. Ugh. So I guess as long as she's the one usually buying diapers. It's more work to argue about cloth vs disposables.

Andrew recently turned 1. Like 3 days ago. So I was told that once he turned 1, he didn't need to be on formula anymore. I told Elliot's mom this. I said I'd figure out something to do with the extra formula. I come home from work the other day and she says "I've decided to just use the rest of the formula. I'm going to do half and half with milk". WTF. I told her he didn't need it. Formula is made to be like breastmilk. Whole milk is not. I told her again that he doesn't need it, but she didn't really listen. I don't ever know what to say. I want to tell her they're my kids and I know what they need and what's best for them. But at the same time I think about how she's helped us out and how much she has done for us. I guess, I'm just looking forward to the day we move out.

Which brings me to my next little topic. Once we finally have our own place (wether it be a house or apartment type home) I'm going to planting a garden with lots of veggies and other fun things. I will be using cloth diapers again. Just alot of green living.

So, more about me. As I said, I'm 22. I work full-time at a local grocery store in the bakery department. It is very hard to resist not eating something. Lol. My shift is 5am to usually 1pm. As much as I dont like waking up so early, I do like being done early because I can always plan things in the afternoon. I dont have to ask for a day off to make appointments. It works pretty well.
I think that's all for now. I'll post something new (and more interesting) soon.
